We can look to temporal things in life to find security. We hold on to people’s opinions, economic status, career and titles. The truth is all those things are changeable. Money is fleeting, people are fickle and jobs and titles can change on a dime. When we hold all these temporal things loosely and root ourselves in the eternal, we will become unshakable.
God made us to bear His image. We are intrinsically valuable because we bear the image of the omnipotent, omnipresent, omnibenevolent, omniscient, infinite God of the universe. Even when we were distant from God, He looked to us as a parent to a child. He saw His image in us, prompting Him in radical love to send His precious son to earth to rescue us. God always makes the first move towards us.
Jesus Christ came to earth to save us not condemn us. The Darling of Heaven left all to live among us. Jesus left Heaven to be in our midst. He moved into the neighborhood embracing us, healing us, restoring us and setting us free. Jesus gave His life as a ransom for ours so we could exchange our identity as “separated” to His identity as “beloved child.”
As we receive Jesus into our heart and all that was won for us at the cross in Calvary, we will find that our security begins to shift locations. The more we spend time in prayer with our beautiful Lord the more we will let go of the world’s temporal things. We will live with our hands wide open. We will find that we become rooted and grounded in the unending love of God, so that when circumstances or situations change in life, we carry the peace of God that transcends understanding, an unwavering contentment and a confident expectation of good.
