At times we can feel that we are under tremendous pressure. We live life trying to please everyone: society, work, family, friends, even our own self-imposed expectations. When we live up to set expectations we feel great, and when we fail we feel worthless.
Living life to please others is like living life on an emotional roller coaster. When we stop performing, we step off the roller coaster and onto solid ground. We were made for the audience of one. God created us on purpose for a purpose and no other being in the universe needs to validate us.
God loved us so much that when we wanted nothing to do with Him, He still sent Jesus to earth for us. Jesus lived a perfect life for us, died on the cross as us and was raised from the dead for our justification. Now we can exchange our unrighteousness for His righteousness.
Now we exchange our identity as ‘separated from God’ to Jesus’s identity as ‘child of God.’ In a healthy parent-child relationship a child doesn’t perform to be approved, they simply are approved. With our new identity in Christ we can step out of all the expectations and pressures of performance and into the ‘supernatural rest’ of being loved and accepted by God.
Romans 5:17 - For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
