We can walk through life trying to measure up to society and other people’s ideals, trying to feel accepted. We buy the right house, car, clothes and stuff so that people will approve us. The truth is we fail at living up to all the standards because the goals are too unrealistic. Even if we were to win the rat race, we would just become number one rat.
Unconditional love is the deepest desire of every person on the planet, even if few would admit it. This love is not dependent on someone’s behavior, appearance, status or belongings. This love is something that cannot be produced, fabricated or self-generated. This love is actually God Himself. The Bible says that God is love; the unconditional love that finite humans can hardly fathom or understand but they can experience it.
When we come into relationship with the God of the universe through Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross, we receive this radical love into our hearts as well as total acceptance and complete forgiveness.
Now we can spend time in prayer with our Heavenly Father. These times of devotion will bear the fruit of love in our lives. This love comes only from communion with God. This love compels us to live kindly, to think of others more than ourselves, to be generous with those who are in need. This love is the mark of a person who is constantly in the presence of God.
Galatians 5:22-23 MSG - But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
