In the beginning the Bible tells us that God created the Heavens and the Earth. Each day we hear about this exciting divine creative process in play. God is creating the earth, the seas, the sun, the moon, plants, trees, rivers, animals, and this dazzling display comes to a heightened crescendo as God creates a family, a man and woman in His image.
After these six days something interesting happens. The Creator of the Universe takes one day and sets it apart. He takes the seventh day and rests. God rested from His works. The infinite, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent Creator of everything rests.
God also established a day of rest in His covenant with Israel, the Sabbath. This is a 24 hour period of time where men and women rest from their works and spend the day in worship to the Lord and enjoying time with their families.
This theme of rest continues through the Christian covenant which was birthed by Jesus Christ’s sinless life, death and resurrection. Now as believers in Jesus we have a daily opportunity to enter the Sabbath rest that our Lord provides.
This is a rest from our self-righteous works. This is a rest from trying to earn God and people’s approval. This is a rest from worry, striving and fear. This is a supernatural rest. Now we can come to our Heavenly Father in prayer with any worry, anxiety, fear, issues or concerns and exchange those for His peace, joy, hope, sense of well-being and a confident expectation of good.
When we walk in this “supernatural rest," our priorities will become evident, we will clearly see the path that God has laid out for us, and we will begin to flourish and thrive in every realm of life as we step into everything God has created for us since the beginning.
Hebrews 4:9-10 - “So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.”
