The definition of blessed is ‘divinely favored or fortunate.’ I would have loved to have seen the disciples’ faces when Jesus said to them that the meek are blessed.
Clearly no one during the occupation of the Roman Empire would have agreed that the gentle are the ones who ultimately win. The world we see with our eyes is dog-eat-dog. People take care of themselves first and trust no one. However, the Kingdom of God is always the opposite.
Jesus said in Luke 17:21 "the Kingdom is within you." The Kingdom is not visible to the eyes but visible to the heart. When we simply receive Jesus, we enter into this amazing divine relationship with our Heavenly Father. In this relationship we receive right standing before God. The more we understand this truth, the more we are transformed into His image from the inside out by His great unfailing love.
After times of prayer, reading the Word, and worshipping our God, we find that there is an ease on our lives for Kingdom living. We are empowered to be gentle when we might be angry, kind when we might be harsh, and forgiving when we might be unforgiving.
The more that we take those moments with our God, the more we will live as the full-fledged citizens of the Kingdom that we actually already are. We will bring the unseen into the seen with every kind act, and be blessed to see the Kingdom at work in and through our lives.
“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought. - Matt 5:5 MSG
